Elizabeth's Approach
Photography has always been a powerful way to stop time, providing heirlooms that we pass down from generation to generation. It’s one of my favorite things about photography, the power to take a trip through the stories of our past. Photos are little notes of who you are and what once was. My passion lies in creating imagery that documents these moments in an intentional, artful, and playful way.
There’s something really powerful in showing you, my client, how I see you in a way you’ve never seen yourself before. It’s honestly one of the things I love most about creating portraits for families. There is magic and power in observation. I love to view family sessions through the eyes of motherhood. What are the moments and details I would love to remember about my own children some day? It isn’t a posed smile, you have school photos for that. I prefer big ol’ belly laughs that show missing teeth and smile crinkles. I’m after the moments that you experience everyday but can’t directly see. I love real families that are loud, silly, messy, wild, honest and true. I’m comfortable within that beautiful chaos.

You see, it was the news of a friend gone far too soon that did it. At the sound of this sudden loss I instantly scoured boxes of old, yellowing photographs to find one of the two of us. One perfectly lit photo of our imperfect smiles. One moment in time captured forever. One portrait portraying years of friendship. One portrait I could use to revisit all those conversations, laughs, and hugs - I found none. I found no photo, but what I did find was a new desire. I vowed in that moment to never let the people or moments I love pass by not captured. It is what ignited my passion for photography. My passion for collecting memories in [photo] paper form.
It’s led me to shooting incredible landscapes in lands far and wide, a variety of milestone moments for friends, and countless snapshots of loved ones. Each one helping stretch a moment. Helping me (and dare I say you) hold a moment a little longer. Documenting every detail so clearly you can relive the moment time and time again.
When I say I love photography, what I really mean is my soul is fed when I’m doing something creative such as this. I’m obsessed with capturing these memories and every little detail. I love giving others something to cherish for years to come.

Documentary photography sessions are unlike your typical photo session. There is no posing or coordinated wardrobe changes necessary. no major lighting set ups.
only me and my cameras -- there to document you and your family exactly the way that you are.
the idea of allowing a photographer to follow your family around for a few hours, even an entire day, can be quite daunting!!! but if you can get past the need to direct your photos, I promise you will be amazed by the results.
